\nand subvert the winter<\/span>
\nawakening to newness<\/span>
\nfrom sleep<\/span><\/p>\n

surprised each morning<\/span>
\nI, too, awake\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

words– thrown away<\/span>
\nby winds<\/span>
\nsouls– slaughtered\u00a0<\/span>
\nby hatchets<\/span><\/p>\n

see\u2014<\/span>
\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but don\u2019t see<\/span>
\nmy heart left me\u2014<\/span>
\nsome night, long ago<\/span><\/p>\n

I wonder why<\/span>
\nin April<\/span>
\nthe daffodils <\/span>
\nhave anything to say <\/span>
\nto me<\/span><\/p>\n
