This tweet (back in November) was one of my most popular tweets. 🙂 It struck a chord. How do you handle the situation when you don’t know how to pronounce someone’s name?
Other helpful comments and suggestions that came out of this tweet:
“How do you say your name?”
“Can you please repeat how to say it so I can get it right?”
Saying a person’s name correctly shows you care and demonstrates your respect for them, their name, and their culture. Names are precious, sacred, often chosen with intention and meaning. We should honor each other by learning how to say and spell each other’s names correctly.
Has this ever happened to you? What other advice would you offer?
