Make a point, whenever you receive a promise from God, to get all you can out of it. If you carry out that rule, it is wonderful what you will gain.

Some go on the principle of getting as little as possible out of God’s word. Such a plan may be wise with a man’s word, but God’s word is to be understood at the maximum, for he will do exceedingly abundantly above what you ask or even think.”          – Charles Spurgeon, Christ’s Glorious Achievements (Ross-shire,  Scotland: Christian Focus 2003), 59

I don’t know about you, but I want to understand God’s word at the maximum, because I definitely want to see Him “do exceedingly abundantly above what I can ask or even think.” That’s a promise– from God Himself.  And, a promise from God is a promise you can take to the bank. Man’s words are like dust (see post entitled “Who Am I”)…here today, gone tomorrow, like chaff in the wind; fickle, untrustworthy, transient. God’s word, on the other hand, is steady, true, unshakeable. You can count on it.

Here are some good words (below). If I just take these verses at their face value (as I’m not at the point of full understanding of this passage), that is enough to blow me away.

Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on his faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him…The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand. (Ps. 37: 23-24)

But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD, He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him. (v. 39-40)

Aren’t those powerful words? But to read it once or twice is only scratching the surface.

Lord, please open up your word to me, as I pray, reflect and meditate on this psalm. Your word is an endless delight!
