Today’s post contains quotes and scripture regarding speech.

First, a few quotes: 

“Speech is a mirror of the soul; as a man speaks, so is he.”  ~Publius Syrus (42 BC)

“If you have an important point to make, don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack.”  ~Winston Churchill

“I should be glad if I could flatter myself that I came as near to the central idea of the occasion in two hours as you did in two minutes.” ~Edward Everett (the speaker who preceded Abraham Lincoln on the platform just prior to the Gettysburg Address, speaking to Lincoln)

Now, for some scripture. These are just a few of the verses about our speech and how we communicate. Wise words!

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. ~ I Corinthians 13:1

Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit. ~Proverbs 18:21

The wise in heart will be called prudent,
And sweetness of the lips increases learning. ~Proverbs 16:21

Those who guard their mouths and their tongues
    keep themselves from calamity. ~Proverbs 21:23

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. ~Ephesians 4:29

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath… ~ James 1:19

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. ~Luke 6:45
